Adoption program

While on vacation trip through the Voeren (a region in Belgium), we encountered this ceremony on one of the huge American burial sites for the soldiers of the world war.

To this day every year there is a ceremony to celebrate new adoption-parents of one of the graves of unknown soldiers. I was astounded by how much it still lives within the community. Schools were participating in it.

Or to quote one of the inhabitants: "If it was your son buried there, wouldn't it comfort you to know that some people still care for him, especially if you don't know where he is buried."
